Students at St Laurence’s College are getting set to paint the town yellow as they prepare for their annual College Walkathon, which will see over 1800 students and more than 200 staff embark on a 15 kilometre walk around the city of Brisbane on Friday 10 August, raising money for multiple charities.

Brightly dressed in yellow Walkathon shirts, students will set off on a walk which follows the river from West End, over the Story Bridge, through the Botanical Gardens and back across the Goodwill Bridge into South Bank, crossing the finish line at the College’s South Brisbane Campus.

Now in its 49th year, the Walkathon is a long standing tradition of St Laurence’s College, raising up to $60,000 in previous years.

This year, students will be fundraising for the Catholic Foundation – Archdiocese of Brisbane, Act for Kids, The Hands of Rescue (THOR) Foundation, Childhood Cancer Support and the Mater Foundation – Mater Little Miracles.

Principal, Mr Chris Leadbetter, said the annual Walkathon provides an excellent opportunity for students to build ties with the local community and raise important funds for those in need.

“Teaching our students to give back to the community is an important part of the Lauries journey,” he said. “They enjoy participating in this event each year. It’s a great Lauries tradition.”

Situated in South Brisbane, St Laurence’s College is an all-boys Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition for Years 5 to 12.
