Set to transform almost one third of the school’s campus, St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School in Queensland has announced plans to develop a new state-of-the-art sports precinct at the northern end of the Ascot campus.
This will be the largest and most significant alteration to the school environment in the history of St Margaret’s.
The project will boast a water polo sized heated pool enabling students to swim and train for sports such as lifesaving and water polo all year round, new tennis courts with lights, a modern gymnasium, a high-tech strength and conditioning gym, and contemporary HPE classrooms.
St Margaret’s Principal Ros Curtis said the development will revitalise and upgrade existing facilities to provide an advanced educational environment for St Margaret’s students now and long into the future.
“As educators we recognise the value and importance of physical education, and the significant impact it has on student wellbeing. Our goal is to create an environment which best serves the health and wellbeing of our students, enhances the value of our outstanding and diverse sports program and adds to the depth and relevance of our curriculum,” Ms Curtis said.
“At the forefront of our planning is creating innovative, collaborative and flexible facilities that will accommodate learning now and well into the future, ensuring that today’s and tomorrow’s generation of St Margaret’s students are given every opportunity to achieve their personal best.”
She also said that a project of this size wouldn’t be possible without the support of the St Margaret’s community including past students, parents and staff, who have shown their support through consultation and their generosity through philanthropy.
“The St Margaret’s community of today will leave a legacy for today’s and tomorrow’s generation of young women,” added Ms Curtis, revealing that the School has a long and proud sporting tradition producing many exceptional athletes who have competed at state, national and even Olympic level.
The project is due to commence in December 2018 and is expected to be complete by late 2019 or early 2020.
