Year 9 student Daniel Cho, from Moreton Bay Boys’ College (MBBC) in Brisbane, recently won the 13 and under age group at the Greg Norman Junior Masters Golf Tournament played on the Gold Coast.

The Greg Norman Junior Masters is an Australian Junior Ranking Event conducted by Golf Queensland which attracts some of the best junior golfers from across the country and the world.

Daniel shot rounds of 79, 66, 73 and 72 to win by two strokes. He also finished 6th overall in the 18 years age group.

After playing strongly throughout 2018, Daniel increased his training schedule to prepare for the competition.

“I’ve been practising after school nearly every day and playing every weekend at Indooroopilly Golf Club,” said Daniel. “It felt really good to win.”

Daniel hopes he can continue to perform at this level and has his sights set on a professional golfing career.

“Daniel has been an outstanding ambassador for MBBC sport. We’re very proud of him,” said Scott Emblen, Director of Sport at Moreton Bay Boys’ College. “This win is a genuine reflection of his hard work and dedication to his sport. With a handicap of one at such a young age, I am sure Daniel will go on to experience great success in his golfing career. We’re all behind him cheering him on.”

Peter Foster, Head of Co-Curriculum at Moreton Bay Boys’ College added, “It’s great to see students venturing outside of the traditional sports and succeeding. We’re excited to see how Daniel performs in his events this year.”

Daniel’s next event is the Australian Boy’s Amateur Championship that runs from 10-13 April 2019 at Southport Golf Club.
