St Laurence’s College is committed to holistic excellence, character development and to shaping each student into a true ‘Lauries Gentlemen’.
Academic excellence, sporting and artistic prowess are held in great esteem at Lauries but at the heart of the College’s mission is moulding young boys into men of honesty, character and integrity. The term ‘Lauries Gentlemen’ encompasses these principles and behaviours. Lauries Gentlemen are in touch with their emotions and have an emotional maturity where they value friendships and relationships, show empathy and act in a way that is something to be proud of.
A key cornerstone at St Laurence’s College is respect – respect for yourself, respect for your friends, respect for other students, respect for staff and teachers, respect for members of the community and respect for your family. The College aims to foster an environment where every individual is treated with respect, dignity and kindness, regardless of their background, beliefs, differences and socioeconomic class. A student barely passing deserves the same treatment as an A+ student, the 5C halfback deserves the same treatment as the First XV Captain and our Year 5 Music Band deserve the same treatment as Big Band 1.
The College places great emphasis on fostering leadership skills among our students and Lauries Gentlemen are encouraged to step up, take initiative and embody these traits. Through various leadership opportunities, students develop the confidence and skills necessary to inspire and guide others, both within the College community and beyond. This leadership extends to all areas of College life – academics, sport, arts, faith in action initiatives and general College life.
A key responsibility of Lauries staff and students is through acts of service – giving back to the community and making a positive impact on those who are struggling or are disadvantaged. Whether through faith in action initiatives, community service projects, volunteer work or through what College Principal Mr Chris Leadbetter refers to as ‘moments of grace’, Lauries Gentlemen understand the significance of contributing to the greater good.
In addition to these core values, Lauries Gentlemen are well-rounded individuals who appreciate the arts, culture, sport and other areas of life. The College offers a rich array of extracurricular activities, from sports and music to drama and community involvement, allowing students to explore their interests and talents. Lauries staff, who are comprised of dedicated educators and mentors, work tirelessly to provide a holistic approach to education where students are guided and supported on their journey to becoming true gentlemen.
The development of Lauries Gentlemen is evident in the Old Boys of St Laurence’s College. Our alumni showcase great success in various fields, not only academically and professionally but also as compassionate, ethical, respectful and responsible individuals who contribute positively to society.
