Valuing the whole person is at the heart of Carey Baptist Grammar School’s educational philosophy. The musicians, the coders, the athletes, the debaters and the artists and designers are all celebrated and encouraged to explore their interests at Carey.
Our annual Art and Design Exhibition is an opportunity to celebrate the creativity, dedication and courage of our student artists and designers in a five-day exhibition. Hundreds of works of art by students in Years 7–12 were on display this year, covering multiple mediums such as painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, digital art, sculpture, textiles and Food Studies.

Through classroom learning in art and design electives in Middle School to more formal VCE and IB studies in Senior School, our students learn the frameworks to create fine pieces of finished artwork. Throughout their studies and practice, students are encouraged to find inspiration in the world around them, explore different mediums and express themselves through creative practices, often helping them draw meaning and understanding from issues or content they may not initially understand. This in turn treats exhibition attendees to a dynamic and engaging experience, where they witness thought-provoking artwork that makes them question and draw their own – possibly different – meaning from student creations.
The dedication of our Art and Design teaching team and encouragement they provide our students creates a supportive, engaging and positive environment for everyone. Our Art and Design Technicians work in partnership with our teaching team to curate the captivating and enjoyable exhibition we look forward to each year.
