Barker College has announced the inaugural recipient of the King Constantine Medal, a new award introduced at the College this year.
This medal is produced by Round Square and is awarded to a student of a Round Square global member school who truly embraces the spirit of the Round Square philosophy and the IDEALS of Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Leadership and Service.
Barker’s first recipient of this prestigious global award is Lachlan Carley, a member of the student committee involved in Barker’s admittance into the Round Square membership.
Barker College said Lachlan attended the first Round Square International Conference in Nairobi, Kenya last year, has been wonderfully committed to the holistic Barker education and has serviced this community with distinction.
The King Constantine Medal is named after the last King of Greece, reigning from 1964 until the abolition of the Greek monarchy in 1973. King Constantine was invited to chair the first meeting of the seven schools that would form the Round Square movement, named after the building at Gordonstoun School in Scotland where the first conference took place in 1967. For half a century, His Majesty’s close involvement continued, first as Chair, and later as President, of Round Square.
